Perfect

The Perfect Run...

What a difference a Friday makes. Last week, Darren & I ran 3 miles in the rain and met over 20 cars. This morning, it was colder, there was a wind on the way out, and it was very dark. But along about mile 3 of my 5 mile journey on the Harper Road I started to noticed something strange about my morning run. It wasn't a feeling of being able to run better or feeling tired or stronger or anything like that, it was a silence. Almost as if something was wrong. NO CARS. I hadn't met a car and no cars had passed me the entire time. As I approached the final mile and the town of Keota I thought there would be no way I could do this in town. I kicked it in a little on the last mile just so I could get done faster. Behind me I heard a car, but it must have turned to go on the Harper Rd...one bullet dodged. I saw a few cars in the distance approached the street I was on, but either went straight or went the other direction. As I approached the 1/2 mile mark I figured someone going to the school or on a paper route would come up behind me or drive at me, but as I picked up the pace again I noticed head lights behind me and thought..."well, one car isn't bad for 5 miles"... then it disappeared (must have turned off). Then two blocks ahead I heard a car start and pull on to the street, but went away from me, but then turned in on my last street. As I approached the last turn and 3 blocks there it was sitting in front of a house waiting...I figured I would really kick it in and they wouldn't pull out and pass me. As I passed the stop sign two blocks away I heard them pull out and figured they'd pass me just before main street....again, the headlights disappeared and they must have turned. As I approached Main Street I didn't even glance to see if a car was coming and just sprinted toward the final block. No cars in sight...crossed the line at my house...walked four blocks for a warm down...still no CARS.
Unbelievable! Last week 20 cars, this week add 2 miles and 0 cars.

Final Stats:
5 .01 miles
47:27
9:29 pace
0 cars

Craig is not a daydream believer or a homecoming queen, but he is in the presence or a most memorable run.
